Knife + Fork + Duck = Happiness

The first time we ate at Knife + Fork, we had their 6-course chef’s tasting menu (reasonable at $45, or $65 with wine pairings). The tasting menu was good but there were definitely some standouts like the duck, so we returned this time for the duck alone. For starters, I had the butternut squash with fromage blanc, which I thought would have actually made a more suitable dessert with the sweet pumpkin and cheese combination. Jer’s seared foie gras appetizer was surprisingly delicious, with more “adventurous” flavors like barbeque eel and pickled octopus. For our entrées, we both ordered the duck without hesitation. The minute-long descriptions that waiters often recite when presenting dishes can get annoying or daunting at times, but there was nothing unsettling about the wonderfully plated Long Island duck breast with vanilla and parsnip puree, lemon potato, red onion marmalade, parsnip crisps and horseradish jus.
