The Good Fork

Lots of Korean-inspired dishes and sides, but I tried the dumplings (which were featured on Food Network), oyster salad and pan-seared bass, which were all very tasty. A hassle to get to via public transportation, recommend the "free" IKEA water taxi

Prune

Chef Gabrielle Hamilton (or "the Master of acid" as my friend likes to call her) serves beautifully matched tastes on each plate. Loved the whole grilled fish and tart tomatoes. Simple, yet elegant. Inspired but completely unpretentious.

Cafe Gray

Delicious pierogi and lobster appetizers, but overwhelmingly rich and clumsy entreés like the braised short ribs. Interesting décor, knowledgeable staff. Good, but not exceptional.

Tasty, cozy, yonic.

The title pretty much sums up my experience at Anissa. Their seven-course tasting menu was good and filling and the restaurant itself was warm and inviting. Go visit the website of this women-owned, operated and themed restaurant and tell me that their logo is not a vagina.

Knife + Fork + Duck = Happiness

The first time we ate at Knife + Fork, we had their 6-course chef’s tasting menu (reasonable at $45, or $65 with wine pairings). The tasting menu was good but there were definitely some standouts like the duck, so we returned this time for the duck alone. For starters, I had the butternut squash with fromage blanc, which I thought would have actually made a more suitable dessert with the sweet pumpkin and cheese combination. Jer’s seared foie gras appetizer was surprisingly delicious, with more “adventurous” flavors like barbeque eel and pickled octopus. For our entrées, we both ordered the duck without hesitation. The minute-long descriptions that waiters often recite when presenting dishes can get annoying or daunting at times, but there was nothing unsettling about the wonderfully plated Long Island duck breast with vanilla and parsnip puree, lemon potato, red onion marmalade, parsnip crisps and horseradish jus.
